Durban runs on a clock that never moves. South African Standard Time sits at UTC+2, year-round, no daylight saving, no seasonal switches. The offset to another city changes only when that city changes its clocks. London jumps forward in March. New York falls back in November. Sydney shifts in April and October. Every time a DST-observing city moves, Durban's difference to it shrinks or grows by exactly one hour.
Durban time converter tools
The live clocks and hour-by-hour table above this section show the current time in Durban and your selected city right now. The interactive converter uses the IANA time zone database (Africa/Johannesburg) and accounts for every DST transition in the comparison city through 2027.
Durban is UTC+2. It stays UTC+2. When a destination city enters DST, the offset between Durban and that city changes by one hour.
SAST to major world cities at a glance
The table below shows Durban's offset to each major city in January 2026 (Northern Hemisphere winter) and July 2026 (Northern Hemisphere summer). Durban is the reference point.

|---|---|---|---|

How to use the Durban time converters
- Select your city from the dropdown or click one of the comparison links below.
- Read the offset line: it states "Durban is X hours ahead of City" or "Durban is X hours behind City."
- Check the date: the tool shows the current offset. If you are planning a call in June, scroll to the date picker and select a June date. The offset updates automatically.
- Use the meeting planner: it shows overlapping business hours (08:00-17:00 in both cities) for any date you choose.
Understanding the results: ahead or behind?
Every converter states clearly whether Durban is ahead or behind the comparison city. Here is the rule:
- If the comparison city is east of Durban (closer to the International Date Line), Durban is behind. Dubai at UTC+4 is 2 hours ahead, so Durban is 2 hours behind.
- If the comparison city is west of Durban, Durban is ahead. London at UTC+0 in winter is 2 hours behind, so Durban is 2 hours ahead.
The only complication is DST. When London moves to BST (UTC+1), the gap narrows to one hour. Durban stays UTC+2, so London is then 1 hour behind and Durban is 1 hour ahead.
Why Durban's offset changes with DST destinations
Durban does not observe DST. South Africa experimented with DST twice, during World War II and again in the 1970s, and abandoned both trials. No legislation to reintroduce DST is pending.
Because Durban's clock never moves, the offset to a DST-observing city changes only when that city changes its clocks. The result is a twice-yearly shift for Northern Hemisphere cities and a once-yearly shift for Southern Hemisphere cities like Sydney.
For practical purposes this means:
- Calling London: in January Durban is 2 hours ahead; in July Durban is 1 hour ahead.
- Calling New York: in January Durban is 7 hours ahead; in July Durban is 6 hours ahead.
- Calling Sydney: in January (Sydney summer, AEDT) Durban is 9 hours behind; in July (Sydney winter, AES T) Durban is 8 hours behind.
The /durban-vs-london-time page and the /durban-vs-new-york-time page include full hour-by-hour tables for both seasons.
Anyone scheduling recurring international meetings should check the converter once in March and once in October to confirm the new overlap window.
